The sun beat down on the garden, making every task a sweaty struggle. He was lost in his work, tending to the plants with a quiet focus. I waited inside, feeling the heat radiate through the windows. As the minutes ticked by, the air grew more unbearable. I knew he wouldn't be done soon, and the thought of him suffering in the heat was unbearable. So, I did something impulsive. I grabbed a cold compress from the fridge and headed out to join him in the garden.

I found him at the sink, rinsing off the dirt and sweat. He looked up, his eyes squinting slightly as he took in my appearance. "What's this?" he asked, his voice laced with amusement.
I held out the cold compress, a foolish smile on my face. "Thought you might need a little something to cool down." I wrapped it around his neck, feeling a flutter in my chest as our skin touched.

But as I looked into his eyes, I realized that the relief wasn't there. He didn't react like I expected him to. Instead, he just...looked at me. Like he was taking in every detail, every nuance of my expression.

It was a little unsettling, but also kind of exhilarating. I felt seen, really seen, for the first time that day. And as we stood there, locked in this gaze, the heat seemed to recede into the background. It was just us, suspended in this moment.
